In 1997, at the ripe age of seventeen, Attentat began his voyage as a DJ. Born in Pontiac,MI in 1978 he relocated to Cleveland in his youth where he began attending all night dance-a-thons throughout the Midwest. These days Attentat finds himself as co-founder of the Denver based record label Dope Recordings, and as creative director for Colorado based production collective, Communikey.
When not busy helping run the Dope label, or planning the next Communikey event, Attentat finds the time to lock himself in the studio. These endeavors have been released on Dope Recordings, Wolf + Lamb Music and Geometricdeck. Attentat has also recently had two pieces of music accepted for the Archipel anniversary release, Assignment 3.
In the last 2 years he has retired from playing vinyl and has began focusing on Abelton style DJ sets. The ability to create loops, mix in his own material, and the potential for layering, not available through a traditional DJ set up, are all reasons why he decided to make this move. Using 3 to 4 tracks in Ableton, Attentat is able to create mixes that take your favorite tracks and twist them in way's you never imagined possible. Using Ableton to remix on the fly allows Attentat to create whole new sonic experiences that will push listeners to question their own interpretations and understandings about music. This is what Attentat is all about.
