Since late in 1997, after a head on encounter with Burning Man, Joshua Smith became josh23 and hasn't ever looked back. Dedicating his life to music, art, community and love, this DJ lives in techno music. From his roots throwing renegade outdoor events with the Trust Collective to his current role as Creative Director for Communikey, Joshua has lived a lifelong adventure committed to forward thinking music and culture.
Whether it's appearing as the emotional and nostalgic Time For Trees, member of the temporary autonomous zone josh23, or as the drunken party funkster Stephan Courvoisier (of Les Freres Courvoisier), a set of music from Joshua has been the highlight of many evenings. Becoming more and more comfortable in the studio, Joshua has releases as Les Freres Courvoisier (with partner Jonathan Cannup, on Brooklyn's Wolf + Lamb and Pheek's Archipel (fall 2008).), as well as an album of ambient music as Time For Trees on his own Rope Swing Cities imprint.
Joshua believes in good intentioned communal growth and the strength of a culture steeped in mutual reciprocity and openly lended hands. He relishes the warm sun on his face, and the beautiful complexity of the puffy white clouds that populate the Colorado skies. When someone gets injured in front of him, he not only laughs, he points and laughs. Joshua is embarrassed about many things, but regrets none of them.
